Rolex GMT Ref 6542 from 1958 Tritium dial - Serviced

€26.999,00

The reference 6542 was the first of what became one of Rolex's most popular and sought after models, the GMT Master. Produced between 1954 until about 1959, when it was replaced by the still highly collectible but less rare 1675, the reference 6542 GMT Master is simply one of rarest and most collectible of GMT Masters.

The dual time zone was a useful tool for pilots and those who were travelling a lot across different continents. The ability to track local and home time was especially useful for commercial pilots. The American airline company, Pan American Airlines (or Pan Am for short) approached Rolex and asked them to develop a watch for their pilots.

There are several key design elements to the GMT-Master that not only made the watch super practical for pilots but also made it instantly recognizable. Rolex actually based the design of the GMT-Master on a watch they had debuted two years earlier – the Turn-O-Graph ref. 6202. The Turn-O-Graph included a rotating bezel, which also made its way onto the GMT-Master ref. 6542.

This nice example is a icon watch , the dial have a nice yellow patina , during the Years the original bezel has been changed for a Service Bakelite bezel , its normal for this models.

The watch has been serviced and is keeping time perfect.
