Eterna is an under the radar brand that has over time developed a cult following. The Eterna Watch company was founded in the watchmaking town of Grenchen, Switzerland in 1856 by Josef Girard and Urs Schild as “Dr. Girard & Schild”. In 1905 with co founder Urs son Theodore at them helm, the company changed it’s name to Eterna. Some of their more notable achievements included the first watch built entirely in house in the 1870’s, a patent for the worlds first wrist alarm clock filed in 1908, and the 1947 introduction of the “Kon-Tiki”, a tribute to Norwegian explorer Thor Heyerdahl’s journey across the Pacific ocean on a hand built raft.
A lovely Eterna gents watch in stainless steel Gold plated dating to the 1960’s. This watch features a 37mm case excluding the original signed crown. This watch displays modest wear throughout, although the white silver dial has been immaculately preserved. The original, factory finished dial features a radial brush pattern with applied gold indices and tritium luminous compound. gold hour, minute and seconds hands are original to the watch. Date window at 3 o’clock. steel case back .
